At the invitation
of Beastie Boy Adam Horovitz aka Adrock, Rational
Animal presented their initiatives at a table
at the Beastie Boys concert on Nov 12, 2004 at
the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, NY. Rational
Animal, a New York-based non-profit organization
that uses the power of media to promote the welfare
of New York’s at–risk animals, handed
out hundreds of Animal Guardian Ribbons, shelter
maps of NYC and invitations to the Gingerbread
Homes for Animals humane education event in Central
Park.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled by the
Beastie Boys support and generosity,” exclaimed
Susan Brandt, the organization’s founder.
“Just when I thought I couldn’t be
a bigger Beastie Boy fan they gave us a donation
of 50 cents per ticket sold!”

Rational Animal t-shirts were created
for the event that featured “Sasquatch”
the big-footed, cold-weather beast that
has been seen in Beastie Boy’s Triple
Trouble music video. “We were glad
to see Sasquatch alive and well in the Beastie
Boy’s video and wanted to honor his
legendary status of an at-risk animal by
presenting him as a representative for all
at-risk animals,” says Ms. Brandt.
Rational Animal artists Andrea Purcigliontti,
a set designer, and her husband, Tony Barber,
bass player for the Buzzcocks, designed
the t-shirts.
Thanks to the generosity of the Beastie
Boys, Rational Animal has the resources
to create a very happy Gingerbread Homes
for Animals humane education event in December. |
