What are the PSAs?

They are a set of four (4) broadcast quality PSAs, 30-second each, produced in 2005. Each features a clever scenario that grabs the viewer’s attention using humor, professional actors and actual shelter animals. They are designed to persuade viewers to adopt their next pet from a specified animal shelter or rescue organization. You can preview them at: www.rational-animal.org/publicserviceannouncements.php

Who produced the PSAs?

They were produced by Rational Animal, a non-profit organization dedicated to creating media campaigns to help at-risk animals. Rational Animal partnered with the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals to create this first series of PSAs focused on reaching the no-kill goal in New York City.
How can my organization use these PSAs?
These PSAs are available for use by your organization for broadcast in your local area. Each spot must be customized to include your logo and website address. To customize, find a video editor who can edit Beta tapes – editors at your local cable or TV stations may want to help to support the cause. If you cannot find a local editor, Rational Animal can do the edit for a moderate service fee.

How can I get these on the air?

Contact the PSA coordinators at your local broadcast networks and cable channels. They will help you get these on the air so pitch the importance of the PSAs to them. These PSAs have been well received in New York due to their message, quality and humor, so talk up these points. Prepare to have duplicates made of your master tape in the format they request. When sending tapes to stations include a letter about your organization’s goals, how these PSAs help your goals and your 501c3 non-profit verification. Note: These PSAs have no expiration date, so encourage stations to use them “for the life of the tape.”
