WHAT IS THE ANIMAL GUARDIAN RIBBON?

In support of the 68 New York City animal rescues and shelters that make up the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals, the media for animals organization Rational Animal developed the Animal Guardian Ribbon as part of its campaign to increase public awareness about NYC’s homeless animals. The neon orange color matches the “Adopt Me” vests worn by homeless animals at public events and conveys the urgency of saving animals.

“The Animal Guardian Ribbon is a great way of communicating one’s concern for at-risk animals, said Susan Brandt, executive director of Rational Animal. “it encourages people to discuss the importance of doing what it takes to care for so many wonderful animals that need homes.”

Rational Animal’s team of volunteers created an attractive orange bookmark that holds each ribbon and describes what it means to be an animal guardian: adopting from shelters, spaying and neutering to reduce offspring and overcrowded shelters, and taking responsibility for the care of animals for their entire lifetime.

In Defense of Animals (IDA) did the honor of naming the ribbon, the “Animal Guardian Ribbon” thereby incorporating it into IDA’s national Animal Guardian campaign <www.guardiancampaign.org> and supporting the production of 20,000 ribbons for handout at adoption events and centers in New York City.
